TLC Mans Up with Carolla Goodbye, Paige Davis. Hello, Adam Carolla. With its ratings and its signature show, "Trading Spaces," on the wane, cable network TLC is turning to a seemingly unlikely source for a new home-makeover show.Former "Man Show" host, comedian -- and accomplished carpenter -- Adam Carolla will host a show on the network, fittingly titled "The Adam Carolla Project." It's one of several new series TLC announced Thursday (April 7) and hopes will help reverse a recent ratings slide.TLC averaged a 0.7 household rating in primetime for the first quarter of the year, still a reasonable number for a cable network but down about 30 percent compared to the same period in 2004, according to several news reports. A good portion of that drop can be attributed to the decline of "Trading Spaces," which has fallen off sharply from its salad days a couple years ago and which recently let host Paige Davis go.As a result, the network is looking into new projects that aren't as makeover-heavy as "Trading Spaces" and some of TLC's other shows. Carolla's show, while it does remake houses, will also focus on the comic and his crew; think "This Old House" with jokes. TLC is also looking to do more documentary series, including "Sheer Dallas," a peek into the upper-crust life in Dallas, and "Going Hollywood," which follows showbiz interns as they try to establish a foothold in Tinseltown.
